Makeup Mondays: March 2014 Ipsy Review

To those who don't know, Ipsy is a monthly makeup subscription bag. Every month subscribers get 4-5 products, some full sized and some samples. You only pay $10. Personally I think that Ipsy is better then BirchBox because not only do you get more full sized items, but you also get a free makeup bag and more high end makeup (like Urban Decay).

For the past 4 months that I have been subscribed, I've always gotten 5 makeup products, this month's bag only had 4 and I was kind of disappointed. This month's theme was "Destination Beauty". The really cool thing about this month's bag is that the makeup bag itself is a piece of art work from San Francisco based artist, Klari Reis. The bag is from her "Street Anatomy" series. At first I didn't like the bag. It felt synthetic and the print was too "modern art" for me. But I appreciate the significance behind the design (Ipsy is based in San Francisco and the theme "Destination Beauty").

So this month I got:
Be a Bombshell Bora Bora Eyeshadow Quad  (Full sized)  ~ $16
bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Get Ready (Sample size)
Pacifica Body Butter: Indian Coconut Nectar  (Full sized)  ~ $15
Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream SPF 42 PA+++  (Full sized)  ~ $22
I listed the actual prices of the products to show that you get more then your money's worth.

I've been able to try Be a Bombshell's products before. Their lip crayons are awesome and the overall quality of their products is good. I would say that they are above drug store quality. I was a bit weary of the Bora Bora eye shadow quad because warm tone eye shadows do not show up on my skin tone that well.

I swatched the eye shadows on my wrist. From the left the colors are: Risky Business, Rock Bottom, Bora Bora, and Starlet. They aren't that well pigmented. Rock bottom barely shows up on my skin, but Bora Bora is pretty bright. Over all I'd give this eye shadow quad a 3 out of 5.

This was my first time trying out bareMinerals. I've heard about them and seen them in Sephora, but have never bought any. I LOVE IT. L O V E! The color, Get Ready, is such a nice pink, not too soft and not too light. It's almost a romantic pink. There is also a fragrance to the lipstick. I usually hate it when lipsticks smell but like the color, it smelled sweet. The product itself was creamy, it wasn't sticky or overly oily. The only negative aspect was that the lipstick bleed into the fine lines on my lips. When I do run out of this lipstick I will probably re-buy. 4 out of 5.

I've never actually even heard of Pacifica, but it turns out that they're a pretty big brand. Honestly I so do not need another bottle of lotion, but the packaging for this one was so beautiful. I was immediately drawn to the bright color scheme. Not to mention the scent is so delicious.

This is one of the pitfalls of makeup subscriptions. I've lucked out so far, but this month Ipsy sent me a pigmented BB cream. I love BB cream, I prefer it over foundation on a day to day basis, but it one just didn't match my skin tone. And I was bummed because Missha is a South Korean brand, and South Korean invented BB cream. *Sigh* I think I'll put it up for swapping on my Edivv account.

Well that was my impression of this month's Ipsy bag. An over all score of 3.5 out of 5. It's not a harsh rating considering the fact that there were only 4 products,1 a sample, and 1 product that I won't be able to use.

    1. I really liked your review. And the body butter scent is so amazing, every time I put it on I crave coconuts.
